It is always a perfect time to go to Venice, whether for a weekend or much longer; here is a quick general overview of the climate throughout the year.
April to September: lovely mild temperatures in the Spring and very hot in the Summer, particularly July, cooling off in September, which, if the weather is fine, is a fantastic month; it gives the feeling that summer is over but that autumn has not yet arrived, so it offers the most beautiful days full of sunshine with perfect temperatures.

The Autumn in Venice is very romantic; the light effect changes, the trees display the most beautiful colours and there is nothing more enchanting than walking through deserted Calli, Fondamenta and Campielli in foggy days, when the evening starts to fall…

If the fog is really thick, then it is unique to walk and literally see people appear from nowhere and disappear into nowhere. The fog blankets nearly all noise; the only sounds that can be heard are the boats’ sirens in the lagoon far away.

One thing to keep in mind is the acqua alta, i.e. the floods, for which there isn’t of course a fixed rule, but it tends to happen sometime around the month of November. Temperatures in the Autumn can be pleasant during the daytime but there can be a nip in the air, especially early in the morning or in the evening.
Last but not least, the Winter; although it can be very cold, it offers an absolutely magical atmosphere, especially in the pre Christmas season with the most beautiful decorations and lights in the evening. If there is a snowfall throughout the Winter, it transforms Venice into a fairytale place! The fundamental thing to bear in mind here is that, after the initial magic moment, the fallen snow often becomes ice therefore caution should be taken, especially while crossing the bridges. Always hold on to the rails, otherwise you might find yourself in the Pronto Soccorso of the hospital (Accident and Emergency) with a broken leg!
